A fire behind my parents’ house

July 7th, 2007 admin

My dad called us this morning at 6:30…and he’s never done that before. The first words he said was that everyone was okay. The house directly behind his burned down. My parents woke up to a loud crackling noise and of course, lots of heat!! The fire spread all the way up to my parents’ garden and there’s definitely damage from the heat. It melted the siding on the back of the house and there’s just ashes everywhere. My mother’s car even got very minor damage from the amber.

It’s incredibly sad. The parents were not home. They were on vacation in Florida and just their son was there. Everyone is fine and no one was hurt. It definitely made me think hard about….a lot of things. First, how appreciative I am of having all of my family and everything I own. Secondly, I thought of how I need to be prepared in case something like this happened to us! Where are my papers? What do I need to grab on the way out…It was a wake-up call for both me and Trevor. We’re just so glad no one was hurt.

The back of my parents house

You can see my parents’ house in the back. The light winds were blowing in that direction. Thank goodness for that extra space of land.
